The NetAP animal sanctuary “Sonnenhof” was founded in 2009 and is located in Northern Germany, near Oldenburg. Not only do the 12 hectares of land in the idyllic moorland area offer plenty of space for rescued four-legged friends and bipeds, it also has the advantage that the soft moorland soil cushions every step and is therefore a blessing for animals with osteoarthritis and strained joints.
Horses, pigs, cats, cows, sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks and many other animals have found a new home here. Almost all of the animals come from cruel or very poor conditions and have been kept for a long time. Some of the animals were confiscated by the authorities and entrusted to us or were saved from the brink of death in some other way.
What they all have in common is that on arrival they first need intensive care, including medical care, before they can begin a species-appropriate life in the greatest possible freedom.
Running an animal sanctuary requires a lot of resources. You may think that from the perspective of the overall situation, the commitment and the associated effort for a single animal or a group of animals may not seem very efficient, but for the individual it is a life or death decision. The rescued animals at the sanctuary are ambassadors for their species and tell their individual story on behalf of the many other animals that cannot be saved.
Not only rescued pets and farm animals are at home at Sonnenhof. Countless wild animals also feel at home here. We also respect biodiversity, refrain from using fertilizers and pesticides and promote species diversity through targeted measures.
Our sponsors make a significant contribution to the success of our sanctuary. They help to finance the living costs of our animals through regular contributions. Of course, sponsors also have the opportunity to visit their protégés.
