In 2017, we were made aware of the dire situation of cats in the eastern Romanian city of Galati. Until then, cat welfare seemed to be a foreign concept, as local animal lovers told us. After a pilot project with 200 cats, we decided to establish a neutering programme specifically aimed at cats. This programme is actively used by both destitute pet owners and numerous animal welfare activists.
We also supported the two animal shelters run by the animal welfare organisation ‘Metanoia’ (‘Casa Noroc’, ‘Casa Mica’) and, via Metanoia, the municipal dog shelter ‘Ecosal’ with food, antiparasite medication and other relief supplies.
