Ivano-Frankivsk is the regional capital of the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast in western Ukraine with a population of almost 240,000. Although the west is not as badly affected by the war as the east, the problems are of course also clearly noticeable here. In spring 2025, we launched the third neutering programme in Ukraine here. Our volunteer Victoria is regularly on site to monitor the programme and ensure compliance with our guidelines.
Our new partner Red Dog (Rudyi Pes) concentrates mainly on smaller towns and villages around the big city. In these places, there are no activities by foreign organisations and it is widespread to abandon the unwanted offspring of dogs and cats somewhere or to drown them. The situation of the animals is grave. Red Dog has so far only managed to finance up to 20 neuterings a month. Two vets who have been vetted by NetAP and who have undertaken to comply with our standards are now neutering animals from the street or from destitute owners as part of our programme.
