On 9 September 2023, an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck Morocco on Saturday night. The epicentre was located around 72 kilometres southwest of Marrakesh in the sparsely populated Atlas Mountains. The earthquake surprised many people in their sleep. The strongest quake in the region for over 100 years killed 2960 people. As usual, nothing was reported in the media about the victims among the animals. On 10 September 2023, we were asked for help. Two local animal welfare organisations began rescuing animals. We immediately provided immediate assistance to rescue, feed and shelter the injured animals and remained in contact with the local animal welfare organisations.
