If you would like to help support the animals and animal welfare organisations in Ukraine, we thank you for your donation with the keyword: Emergency aid Ukraine.
It is with great concern that we observe the misery caused by the war that broke out in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. More and more people are fleeing after the Russian invasion, and only a few are able to take their animals with them. The flow of refugees towards the West is huge, and fortunately so is the solidarity with the people. At the borders with Ukraine, volunteers and employees of NGOs (including NetAP) provide support and help wherever they can. We are also helping the refugees and their animals with our partner at Bucharest Airport and Bucharest Central Station.
Our partner vets in Romania treat the animals of refugees free of charge. Most of the costs incurred are reimbursed by NetAP on an ongoing basis. Additional accommodation has been created to house animals. We also cover a large part of the resulting costs.
We are in daily contact with Ukrainian animal shelters, rescue centers and animal welfare organizations in order to meet their needs and provide them with appropriate help wherever possible. Fortunately, we are able to count on the support of one of our dedicated volunteers, who herself comes from Ukraine and was actively involved in animal welfare in her home country. She speaks both Ukrainian and Russian, which means that we can also help animal welfare workers who are unable to ask for help from the West due to a lack of language skills. Many pets have been left behind and farm animals in particular remain unattended. We are doing everything in our power to support those who are taking care of the animals in these difficult times. Financial support for food reserves and medicines is a priority so that, where possible, purchases can be made locally and, above all, immediately.
Providing emergency aid in disaster situations is something that NetAP has done time and again since it was founded. However, we have to be sure that our aid reaches its destination, and that is not easy in a war situation. The longer the war situation lasts, the more difficult it becomes to provide the necessary aid. We are constantly making funds available from our disaster fund. How long these last also depends on the donations we receive.
The following organisations have received financial support to date (in some cases several times):
and of course our Romanian partners, for the treatment and reception of Ukrainian animals.
Entry with pets from Ukraine: The entry regulations have been temporarily eased. The applicable rules can be found on the website of the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office FSVO (Attention: The entry restrictions were lifted again on 1 August 2023!)
Veterinary help for animals from Ukraine: Many vets offer free or heavily discounted help for the pets of refugees. In individual cases, we help by covering the costs, but only with prior verification of the case and only with our partner vets. A list of veterinarians who help at a reduced price or free of charge can be found on the website of the Society of Swiss Veterinarians GST
Accommodation for refugees with animals: The Tasso Help platform lists offers of accommodation for refugees with animals.
Free food donations for animals from Ukraine: There are numerous places where pet food can be donated free of charge. NetAP supports various of these organizations with food donations, such as the Schweizer Tiertafel. We have also made direct food deliveries in some communities for the animals of refugees who have been taken in. You can find offers, for example, at www.swisshelpforukrainianpets.ch.
Ukrainians with Swiss alien police status S who have fled Ukraine with unneutered cats have the opportunity to have their cat(s) neutered free of charge at one of the following veterinary practices (this free offer does not apply to further medical treatment or procedures).
