Our partner on the Romanian border with Ukraine. The animal welfare activists stand 24/7 at the border in the north of Romania (Siret) and look after the animals of the refugees. They regularly drive into Ukraine and distribute food and urgently needed medicines. We finance a large proportion of these relief supplies by purchasing them directly on site. Our vet Bogdan Dascalu is also regularly on duty with the Casa Lui Patrocle team, examining, treating, vaccinating and chipping the animals directly at the border station.

The animal welfare organization has two animal shelters with around 700 dogs. At the same time, they are currently also coordinating the procurement of food for smaller animal shelters and stray animals. Our volunteer Victoria knows the animal welfare organization personally and used to work there actively.

The animal shelters look after over 700 animals and need a supply of food and medicine. They also take in abandoned animals and feed stray animals.

Largest animal welfare organization in the Ukraine. Helps various smaller animals that otherwise hardly get any help from the West. Has a large volunteer network and tries to penetrate areas where no one dares to go.

A dedicated individual who has taken in almost 90 animals. She only speaks Ukrainian and Russian and therefore had little chance of getting help from the West.

A Chance for Live is an animal shelter in Nikopol, run by Voshun Olena. There are 250 animals there, and she keeps the weakest, handicapped ones at home. She only speaks Ukrainian and Russian and therefore had little chance of getting help from the West.

They take care of abandoned pets and have numerous foster homes. Originally the focus was only on cats, but during the war they now care for all pets in need.

The reserve is home to many animals and plants, including bison, antelopes, wild horses, ostriches, llamas, zebras, numerous bird species, etc. Due to the Russian occupation, the reserve fell into disrepair.

‘Home of the rescued Animals’ is almost flooded with animals from the war zones and is bursting at the seams. There is a lack of food, medicine, cages and everything else. We help to cover the immense costs for the animals.

Veterinarians take care of dogs, cats and other pets, coordinate food deliveries and consultations (also by telephone, where a visit is no longer possible). They also have to look after the Borodyanka animal shelter, which was badly hit. Unfortunately, contact with the shelter was broken off for over a month due to the occupation by Russian troops and the animals were left unattended. About three quarters of the animals died in agony.

Volunteers from “The Tailed Gang” managed to go to the shelter in Borodyanka on April 1, 2022 to take care of the surviving dogs. Since the beginning of March, no one had any information about the condition of the animals in the shelter because Borodyanka was occupied by the Russians. The pictures the volunteers saw were unimaginably horrific. Most of the dogs had starved to death, died of thirst or had been bitten to death. Around 120 survived, but are in a very critical condition, so we provided emergency financial aid to the volunteers to cover the veterinary costs.

Noah’s Ark is an animal shelter in Dnipro that was confronted with a flood of abandoned animals for which space had to be created. They also regularly go to the embattled areas to help with food or to rescue animals. Our emergency aid covers part of these costs.

In the middle of a war zone, the animal shelter is very affected by the consequences. In March, the shelter burned down, but fortunately most of the animals could be saved. There are over 400 dogs, over 300 cats, horses, foxes and raccoons living at the shelter.

First opened in 2020, it was intended as a center for handicapped animals or animals in need of care. When the war broke out, the shelter also took in other dogs and cats on an ongoing basis. Well over 100 animals are housed at the shelter.
