After heavy rain and storms on the night of March 3, 2015, more than 42 people died in the Kahama district of Tanzania. Another 82 were seriously injured. Most of the victims were children! Many animals were also affected by the natural disaster.
Over 3500 people from 500 households are homeless after their homes were swept away by the storm or water. They have left the area. Countless animals were left behind.
The TAPO team, with whom NetAP has been running a programme to improve the lives of working donkeys and a rabies prevention programme since 2012, immediately went to the crisis area, where, with NetAP’s support, they took care of the animals and ensured that they received the necessary treatment, medical care, food, water and shelter.
