The only sustainable solution to the suffering of cats is consistent neutering. NetAP neuters cats from almost all cantons in Switzerland on an ongoing basis and is campaigning for a national neutering obligation for outdoor cats.

Here we give you an insight into some of the neutering campaigns we carried out in Switzerland in 2008 to 2012. This list is not exhaustive, as we often refrain from reporting due to time constraints.

Tösstal ZH

There is also a great deal of cat suffering in Switzerland: around 1.5 million cats live in the country. Many of them are feral, living on factory sites, in allotments or on farms. Unneutered, they reproduce up to three times a year and the misery takes its course.

There are also over 30 more or less feral cats living on a farm in the Töss Valley. Overwhelmed by the number of cats, the farmers asked us for help. After all, killing, shooting or drowning them cannot be a solution. We installed cat traps on the farm and caught the cats. They were then given medical treatment, neutered, treated for internal and external parasites, chipped and ear-marked so that you can immediately tell which are neutered and which are still un-neutered.

Almost all the cats were trapped. About five animals are still missing. We need patience for these. They are very clever. But we won’t give up until we catch them too. Some animals were very lucky that we were able to place them. Two are still waiting for a new home in a foster home. All in all, the campaign was a great success. Most of the animals went back to the farm, where they can live in peace and are fed by the farmers. And from time to time we will drop by with treats, food and anti-parasite medication to see how Küde, Kleopatra, Kasssius, Knut, Kaya, Kasim, Kobold and all the other velvet paws are doing.

Our urgent appeal goes out to all cat owners: please have your cats neutered. There are so many great cats waiting for a home, there is no need for more kittens! And even if you find a new home for the kittens you want, they will still take the much-needed space away from the cats waiting in the shelter!

Spay and Neuter Day Fribourg

On Saturday 19 November, a NetAP team consisting of Board member and vet Dr Enrico Clavadetscher, vet Fabian Scholz and our President Esther Geisser travelled to Estavayer-le-Lac in western Switzerland. A neutering mission together with the Fribourg animal shelter was on the programme.

Numerous feral cats had to be operated on in order to once again proactively combat the great cat suffering. 43 animals were successfully neutered by our team, and one dog also had a tumour removed.

Spay and Neuter Day Serpiano TI

A cat neutering campaign in Ticino has been successfully completed. Numerous skinny and sometimes sick cats that had their territory in the vicinity of a wellness hotel were caught, medically treated and neutered by a NetAP team. At the last moment, when the team almost no longer believed it, they managed to catch and neuter the last cat, a very experienced and wild mum cat. We also managed to nurse up the kittens that had already been born and place them in good homes.

2008 - 2010

Various castrations

In the years 2008 to 2010, we caught and neutered cats at various locations, mainly in the canton of Zurich, and were usually travelling alone to do so. Documenting our work with photos was not yet standard at the time. It was only when we built up our volunteer network that we were able to expand our operations to other cantons and start reporting on them.
